The tables leaves still retain their original butterfly hinges. The single drawer has rose headed nails and the top is held with four wooden pins. The entire piece is held together with its original wooden pin construction. Lovely wear and patina. Measures 43 inches wide, 35 and one quarter inches deep, and 28 inches high when open, 35 and one quarter inches deep, 13 and one half inches wide and 28 inches high when closed. Two 14 and one half inch leaves.The gateleg table is the first intimate dining table. The restoration of the monarchy in 1660 brought many changes in both lifestyle and types of furniture used in everyday dining. Families changed from eating in their great hall to smaller more intimate rooms just for them and their quests.
