- - - - - - - - | Ernest Hagen Pair NY bookcases in mahogany Item # 4046 Click HERE to inquire about this item American furniture maker Ernest Hagen. Pair NY bookcases in mahogany. It is quite rare to find Hagen furniture let alone a matched pair of Hagen bookcases with original labels. "Ernest Hagen" open his business in1858 forming a partnership with his old friend and shop mate J. Mathew Meier under the firm name of Meier & Hagen after buying out their old employers, A. Dohrmann, keeping it up at the old place #106 Norfolk Street. Hagen worked on many important original Duncan Phyfe pieces. Hagen furniture was made with the same attention to detail and period design that Phyfe used so he was recommended by people needing their period pieces restored or reproduced in exacting detail. Hagen furniture is highly sought after and in many important collections. The mahogany he used in this pair of bookcases was the best quality, the carving detail perfectly executed and the divided lights in the door panels retain their original hand blown glass. Each book case measures 55 and three quarters inches wide at the top molding,64 and eleven sixteenth inches high,52 and three quarters inches across their bases and fourteen inches deep. The inside shelves measure 11 and one half inches deep and set into groves so they can be easily moved to any position. Excellent all original condition. Three glass windows have cracks but they are original so we are not changing them unless the buyer insists.
